The oldest multiplication table was discovered in Ancient Babylon and according to various estimates it is about 4000 years old. The found table is based on the hexadecimal system of calculation and is executed in the form of an earthen tablet.

The oldest of the found multiplication tables in the decimal system of calculus was found in ancient China and dates back to 305 BC.

Some modern historians believe that the multiplication table was invented by Pythagoras of Samos, an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician who lived in Ancient Greece in the years 570-490 BC. Therefore, the multiplication table is often also called the Pythagoras table.
